ERASMUS

The Romanian University of Sciences and Arts “Gheorghe Cristea” of Bucharest, Romania proposes to include in its strategy a few fundamental objectives, related to the implementation of the principles of the Erasmus University Chart, and also to some older concerns of the University, resulting from its adhesion to the Bologna Chart and to other documents of European university policy: adoption of a European transferable credits system, promotion of staff and students’ mobility, development of evaluation and accreditation, implementation of common courses, promotion of a European dimension in the educational process, extending the social dimension of higher education, improvement on the attractiveness of the high education system, development of continuing education, interaction of education and research – the final objective being that of creating a European university area, and, at the same time, a European university conscience, which leads, implicitly, to the creation of some values of European culture and civilization. The University will disseminate the principles of the Erasmus University Chart and of the Erasmus Policy Statement, by the following actions related to the implementation of the Erasmus Programme:
1. Debates within the academic community on the Erasmus University Chart and the Erasmus Policy Statement;
2. Organizing a workshop for the University’s students, which should have as guests representatives of the National Agency for Community Programmes in the Field of Education and Continuing Learning;
3. Organizing a section within the framework of the Alternative Economic Strategies Symposium, dedicated to the European education programmes and strategies, especially to the Erasmus Programme;
4. Publishing on the University’s website the Erasmus University Chart, the Erasmus Policy Statement, the data related to the acquisition of Mobilipass, as well as the steps taken by the University in support of their implementation;
5. Achievement of advertising materials to promote the Erasmus documents: posters put up at the University headquarters and at the study centres outside Bucharest, visible for undergraduates and master degree students, and a brochure presenting the Programme (possibly created within a students’ contest or as seminar projects for the students specializing in Social Communication and Public Relations);
6. Including, in the University’s research plan, some research themes achieved in co-operation with other universities from the European area, aiming at conceiving common courses for the universities of a certain region (for instance, the Balkan area) and pan- European university courses on economic, juridical, linguistic, historical, etc. issues.
Special interest will be given to actions of fighting discrimination (gender equality, integration of disabled students and staff, enhancement of social and economic cohesion, fighting xenophobic and racist prejudice and attitudes), starting from the premise that discrimination opposes all the principles of democracy. The steps that the University proposes to take along these lines include:
1. Elaborating a Code of fighting discrimination, based on a statement of principles on discrimination, whose constituent parts are consistent with the defining documents of the University;
2. Organizing a special section within the annual Symposium Alternative Economic Strategies (November 2007) and within the annual Symposium Juridica (June 2007) concerning the issues raised by discrimination and its combating in today’s world, in the European space, and especially in Romania;
3. Including in the university curricula (Law, Social Communication) some courses or course chapters relating to aspects of discrimination and its combating;
4. Promoting the Code of fighting discrimination on the University’s website;
5. Grants given to Romanian students;
6. Achievement of advertising materials raising awareness to the problems of discrimination (following a contest or as seminar projects of students specializing in Social Communication and Public Relations).
